TARA Barrel Racing Rules

Section 1 Rules….

• 1. A TARA Barrel Race is a timed event using three identical barrels set in a cloverleaf pattern. Barrels must be empty. They must not have any weights in them which will make it less likely for them to be knocked over.
• The starting gate must remain the same throughout the entire event.
• The start/finish line and the barrel positions should be permanently marked and must remain the same throughout the entire event.
• The barrel pattern must meet the following conditions:
1. a minimum of 15 feet between each of the first two barrels and the side fence.
2. a minimum of 30 feet between the third barrel and the back fence.
3. a minimum of 25 feet between the time line and the first barrel.
• The ground conditions within the arena must remain consistent throughout the event. The ground around the barrels must be reworked and leveled after each 5 runners in the open. If the ground is unsafe and requires a big drag we will do that after the 25th runner.
• If a barrel is moved off its marker during competition, the barrel must be reset prior to the next competitor's run.

Each barrel can only be turned once during the open run.
• Any time a contestant crosses the starting line, time will begin.
• A contestant will be given a "no time" for missing the pattern or for knocking a barrel over. Touching the barrel, included attempting to keep it up, is permitted.
• A contestant will be disqualified for running out of turn. It is the contestant's responsibility to know his/her draw position.
• Each contestant must be checked in with the gate director by the end of the drag that is before their draw number. If the contestant fails to check in with the gate director they will be disqualified.
• Contestants may ride any horse, regardless of ownership, and may ride as many horses as they choose in a class. However, a horse may not be run in the same class more that one time unless it is shared by a family member.
• Only one horse may be in the arena at any time during competition.
• Reruns shall be granted if the timer fails to work properly or if the barrels are not placed properly on their markers.
• Contestants who are given a no-time, either for missing the pattern or knocking down a barrel, may complete the pattern, but no re-wrapping the barrel for the safety of the other contestants.

If you are to draw out of the race it must be 30 min. prior to the scheduled race time in order to receive a refund.  Draw outs after the scheduled race time will not recieve a refund.

$25 fee on all returned checks.
